Some Big Sea Games Available on Facebook

by Lure on April 20, 2010

Treasure Quest on Facebook, betaBig Fish Games has rolled out a Facebook game application called Treasure Quest. The application features eight games, seven of which are direct ports from Big Sea Games:

* The Daily Detective
* Fairway Solitaire
* Riddle O’Day
* Thunderbolt 21
* L.O.B.E.
* Unwell Mel
* Plunder
* Snow Globe

Each day, you will be given goals to complete and when you do, you’ll earn a treasure chest. Inside the treasure chest is experience points and gold.

Experience points are bragging rights — after trying out three quick games in about 15 minutes (the two for the goals and the Daily Detective), I earned level two and 357 gold. As you reach higher levels, you earn more bonuses — for example at level 4 you’ll earn 5% more in treasure chests and at level 7 you’ll earn 5% more on Gold Spins. Fun!

The gold is used to purchase clothing for your avatar and additional levels of some of the games. As far as I can tell, the purchasable level packs in the seven Big Sea games are the same as all of the levels we already have access to on the Big Sea site. According to their help files, “You earn Gold by opening Treasure Chests, doing Gold Spins, and leveling up.” But here’s the kicker, and why development focus has been on this and not our beloved Big Sea Games site: you can buy gold. With real cash-money.

The one game not entirely familiar to us Big Sea Fans, Daily Detective, features a daily scene from one of the hidden object games that Big Fish Games produces. When you solve the daily puzzle, you earn a Gold Spin, which is essentially a jackpot spinner with a variety of gem prizes on it. I won 45 gold on mine.

Casual game portals porting their games to Facebook is nothing new — Pogo did this just recently themselves. The advantage of Pogo’s Facebook application, as opposed to Big Sea’s as it is right now, is that you can chat and all of your progress earned there is applied to your Pogo account as well. It seems that there is no way to link your Big Sea account with your Facebook account, so progress made at one site will not reflect on the other. Bummer.

We’ve created a post that lists all of the game help and information available on this site: BigSeaFans.com for Treasure Quest users. Enjoy!

Have you tried out the Facebook application? What do you think? Leave a comment below!

Welcome to BigSeaFans.com!

by Lure on October 4, 2009

Hi everyone! We’ve changed our name from Big Fish Gamer to Big Sea Fans. (We’ve also moved to a faster and more stable server, hooray for that!)

The purpose of this was twofold: with the change from the Big Fish Games Community to Big Sea Games it only seemed appropriate, plus I wanted to make the focus less about me and more about all of us fans. Since the migration, a ton of folks have stepped up to help with the news, rumors, and information and a ton of you loyal visitors leave thoughtful and insightful comments on a lot of different posts — you are what makes the site fantastic, and I wanted to call attention to that. (I’d specifically like to thank b3achy for writing a few guest posts about Dive! Deeper a few weeks ago, and Pidgeot always being there to ferret out detailed information for us.) It’s not just me behind the scenes here — I may be the one putting the stuff online, but it’s the whole community of fans like you who step up to help me out!

I want you to always feel welcome here to share your thoughts and opinions, rumors and information, or whatever is on your mind. If you’re not comfortable leaving a comment or have a scoop or idea that you’d like published as an individual post, I’ve added a “contact us” link to the bottom of every page on this site. Feel free to use it.

For as long as it needs to, bigfishgamer.com will redirect to this domain, so any pre-existing links to this site will still work in the future. With that said, I recommend you bookmark bigseafans.com and from this point forward just tell your friends about the great things you find at bigseafans.com!

So welcome to the “new” site and enjoy!

Big Fish Games Beta Program

by Lure on July 21, 2009

Play Unreleased Games! Join the Big Fish Games Beta Program!The Big Fish Games Beta Program is open! As per today’s newsletter, you can sign up to test brand new games: “Play Unreleased Games! – Sign up to participate in our Beta program and help test games before they’re available to the public.”

It appears you have to click on the link from within your email so their system can register you for the beta. The newsletter arrived on July 21, and was the Game Splash Issue #610. If you didn’t receive the newsletter, there probably isn’t a way to sign up for the beta right now.

According to the sign up confirmation page, you should be able to test one to three games per month after receiving an email notifying you that there’s a new game to test. You can unsubscribe any time.

Note: this is NOT a beta program to test the online community games we normally talk about here (like Suits Me solitaire games, Farm 51/52, and the online “multiplayer” versions of Fairway Solitaire and Unwell Mel), but to test the downloadable PC games from Big Fish Games. These may be games like Azada, Mystery Case Files, et cetera.
