Treasure Quest Closing on March 15

by Lure on February 15, 2011

Well, I can’t say this news comes as a surprise:

It is with sincere regret that we will be phasing out Treasure Quest, effective March 15, 2011, at 10:00 AM PST.

Without an update to the application since July 2010 and the Daily Detective episodes starting to repeat months ago, it was only a matter of time until Big Fish Games announced they’d be shutting down the Treasure Quest app on Facebook. The announcement came today via their Facebook page. More details are available in the Treasure Quest closure FAQ.

It appears Faunasphere is being phased out concurrently, but the other Big Fish Games app My Tribe will remain, possibly soaking up those precious few resources Big Fish Games will free up with these closures.

This site will remain online indefinitely. Be sure to check the archive of Big Fish Games releases — a new game every day! — if you still are interested in giving Big Fish Games your money. Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Closing on 3/15, looks like they already shut down as soon as they announced. Have been trying to get into games all afternoon but cannot. Sad they bought these games from Big Sea then everything went down hill from there. If they didn’t have the funds to keep up with them why buy them in the first place.

2 Lure February 15, 2011 at 7:56 pm

sharon: there was no buying involved. Big Fish Games started off with the Big Fish Games Community when they acquired the ION Thunder game site, then they made it standalone and called it Big Sea Games. When Facebook got big, they ported a few games to Facebook as “Treasure Quest”. Later, Big Sea Games was shut down and now Treasure Quest is facing the same fate. History repeating.

So very hard to realize BFG has managed to take a wonderful site away …. not once, but twice. I truly should have learned when they dumped Big Sea. Guess it is no surprise they also closing Treasure Quest. So, lots of purchased gold. Hummmmm … and their response is that the Riddle girl gets to keep it. Doesn’t that just make me happy? LOL

I just clicked the cancel button for BFG. No need to give them more money. I have trusted them far to much. No more.

4 Susan February 15, 2011 at 10:52 pm

Well this comes as no surprise !
I was getting bored with Treasure Chest anyhow.
Not very good management going on over there in Seattle . I have also hit the cancel button for BFG .It’s to bad that Big Sea didn’t or wouldn’t listen to all the people that wanted to buy a membership to keep the site open. Big Sea wanted to move on to bigger and better . Well ..enough said .

Well this is no surprise. Wish we could go back to ION Thunder.
No more big fish for me

6 whats_up_doc February 16, 2011 at 6:54 am

i know this is not about Treasure Chest, but i liked to play faunaspere after they closed bigseagames, and now that will be closing to, is a deja vu when reading the forum over there, so
many people are angry and upset, i am sorry for the people that
play Treasure Chest as well, seems that BF is number 1 in
disappointing people all the time

7 Sue February 16, 2011 at 9:11 am

Bring back the days of ION Thunder. That was truly a game site for the people. BFG & Big Seas have hurt so many I hope they go defunct and that no one will ever bother to purchase a game from them. Wasn’t the advertising enough on facebook for them? It is so sad to think that so many people have left their jobs tbere because they knew it is was a huge joke…too bad they didn’t inform all of us months ago…we the fools who played!

8 Margaret February 16, 2011 at 11:47 am

Yes, I wish they would bring back ION THUNDER, that was a great site.

9 WilliamPorygon February 16, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I’m finished with Big Fish forever now. Ruining Ion Thunder was bad enough. Closing the Big Sea Games site to “concentrate on Facebook” was even worse. Now they’re getting rid of this too. The heck with them, if they don’t have a clue how to run a profitable business then they shouldn’t bother trying anymore.

10 synthsnake February 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Now Treasure Quest says it’s updating. I wonder why.
I too miss Big Sea, Ion, etc. The small amount of games on Facebook really didn’t make much of a replacement but I’ll miss them.

11 hazyace February 17, 2011 at 7:07 am

I,too, miss Big Sea but thought perhaps, with less games, Treasure Quest would be cheaper to maintain and, therefore, safe. WRONG!!!
Last year they took Big Sea away and now doing the same with Treasure Quest-not good enough- they pull us in and then they smack us down- I, for one, have had enough of it. I am a member of Big Fish game club because I get a lot of download games from them at a very reasonable cost and can play them over and over. If it was not for that then i would cancel my membership. I am SOOOOOO sick that TQ is closing where am I going to get my L.O.B.E fix now?

12 Susan February 17, 2011 at 1:48 pm

I too had a membership with Big Fish Game club. I have bought well over 200 games . I found that that a lot of the games that BFG is putting out the past 6 months have had a lot of glitches in them . The customer service is not what it use to be . I have since cancelled my Membership and found a website where I can get the same games for free . So Big Fish Games have lost another customer here !!

13 synthsnake February 17, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Susan, where is it that you’re getting the same games for free? I too buy from Bigfish and finding glitches, like updates that delete the games and can’t be downloaded again.

15 ivy February 18, 2011 at 7:31 am

it’s not even loading for me right now…3:30am pst

16 mary February 18, 2011 at 10:27 am

TQ is terrible today won,t load at all

17 Kim February 18, 2011 at 11:33 am

Not loading for me either at 9:30 am cst. Guess they don’t need to rush on fixing it since they already notified us that it is closing down next month. :(

18 Marti February 18, 2011 at 5:13 pm

I just want the money ($70) I spent buying gold on TQ. I find it insulting that BFG’s only comment is “spend your gold before March 15th” or gleefully give it to the Riddle girl. On what? Why does it matter? Shall I buy and outfit or two? Shall I play a game a bit longer? Why? It too will be gone in March. Oh wait, that’s right … I should be thrilled to give the gold to the Riddle girl. Forgot that part. I have also had a membership at Big Fish. I just downloaded the last of my games and clicked the cancel button. After Big Sea … and now Treasure Quest … they have enough of my money for nothing. Yes, I was a paying member of Big Sea (until they changed the payment part) too. Fool that I am to trust BFGs twice. Never again. No matter what wonderful (or not so wonderful) games they have. BTW, find it curious they lock and block anyone who says something negative about them. Interesting. Oh, and TQ is not loading today. Suspect that maybe they decided to close it now??

19 Susan February 19, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Marti,
I am so sorry you spent that money in treasure Chest . I for one will never trust Big Fish again ~ Synthsnake, I tried to respond to your question . it has been deleted . Maybe Lure can give you my email addy ?

20 Dabsangel February 19, 2011 at 8:10 pm

I will miss treasure quest. I’ll miss l.o.b.e, riddle of the day, and unwell mel. I ‘m glad they aren’t closing My Tribe. I got hooked on that game. I hate to see Treasure quest go I got up to level 115 on that game.

21 Lure February 19, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Susan: I passed on the info directly to Synthsnake when you posted it on the 17th. I didn’t want your email address to be harvestable by spammers.

22 Susan February 20, 2011 at 1:10 am

Thank you Lure .. I was thinking the same thing

23 Margi February 20, 2011 at 1:40 pm

I, like so many of you, have been around since the good ole ION days. I am so disappointed in Big Fish that I am considering cancelling my ongoing subscription.

Would someone be able to assure me that cancelling my subscription will not cause me to lose the credits accumulated? I just don’t think that I want to give my money on a regular basis to a company that has repeatedly let me down.

Also, is the free game site shockwave?

24 WAREN BURT February 20, 2011 at 2:19 pm

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME ! 50 YEARS OLD
AND THEY ARE TAKING MY WIFE’S FAVORITE
GAME AWAY ! NOW WHAT ? SO SAD

25 mizmoo February 20, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Disappointing that they weren’t able to keep this going even with the Facebook tie in, but looking for the silver lining….maybe I was spending WAY too much time on TQ :) About the BFG games, Susan, are you talking the SAME games, or just similar? Would love to check out the site you found.

26 WAREN BURT February 20, 2011 at 2:47 pm

Hi Honey ! so i commented about
closing your favorite game ! You

29 Susan February 21, 2011 at 9:08 am

Mizmoo,
These are the same games . I just love this site that I have found . One day I was reading the forums in BFG’s a woman had mentioned this site .I had gone to check it out . When I returned to BFG forums the Mods had deleted her comment . I do have one more credit with BFG guess I had better use .I won’t be going back .

30 Lure February 21, 2011 at 10:35 am

Susan: email me the name of the site please?

31 Sue February 21, 2011 at 4:39 pm

I thought I would pass along the response I got from BFG concerning the closure of TQ.
Also, what is the name of the website that is mentioned that has the games like BFG?

Hi there Sue,

Thank you for taking the time to write in. Before anything else, I want to assure you that I completely understand your frustration regarding the decision to remove Treasure Quest from Facebook on March 15th, especially since you’ve been playing these games with us for some time. This was a decision that Big Fish Games needed to make as a business but please know that it was a very difficult one to make. For more information about the decision and about the time until it closes, I recommend taking a look at our Treasure Quest Closure FAQ help article.

Although this decision is final, I will be glad to forward your thoughts regarding Treasure Quest to our development team. Your feedback is still very important to us as we take what we have learned in this situation and apply it to future projects.

Again, I am deeply sorry for any disappointment or frustration this experience causes. Please be in touch if there are any other questions I can answer. I’m here to help in any way that I can and you can reply directly to this email to reach me.

Take care,

Carmen

I am disappointed also that Treasure Quest will no longer be available. I have read the others post and someone mentioned another site that has games like Treasure Quest or the same games. If anybody knows these sites, could you please email me with the websites. Thank you so much for any help you can give.
Why doesn’t Big Fish just have the Treasure Quest games up for sale if they are hurting financially?

33 synthsnake February 22, 2011 at 3:17 am

lol @ the elusive development team :-) I lost Fairway Solitaire months ago…the development team is diligently working on that.

34 Bri February 22, 2011 at 7:32 am

I too am very interested in learning more about the site Susan has mentioned.

Not sure I can say I will miss Treasure Quest. I did like the games but playing on TQ felt rather lifeless after playing on BSG. For me
the huge plus side of BSG was the community and now BFG are devastating another wonderful community by closing Faunasphere.

35 Lure February 22, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Hey everyone, even though it’s not related to the closing of Treasure Quest, I’ve been trying to get some information on the site Susan mentioned. I can’t seem to get a clear answer on what site it was and that makes me suspect it was something illegal or shady in some way. :(

As far as I’ve found, BFG really does offer great prices and in my experience their download customer service far exceeds that of the very disappointing BSG and TQ. If you found something better, feel free to let me know via email.

Please keep future comments here strictly to the subject of the closing of Treasure Quest. March 15 is right around the corner. :(

I to was a Ion Thunder / Big Fish player . When it closed and was told to go to FaceBook to play them , I did . I would not be on FaceBook if it wasnt for the games . I am truely disappointed at the closure of the game site . I may even cancel my account .

37 Barbara February 25, 2011 at 7:46 am

In response to Cathy’s post, I contacted Facebook about purchasing the rights to Treasure Quest. I figured they were one of the most successful sites on the internet today and would surely see the advantage of buying the games outright. I, too, never visited Facebook very much before Treasure Quest. I noted in my email to them that they would probably lose a lot of people once the games were gone. The only response I got from Facebook was an automatic reply that the message was received but nothing specific to Treasure Quest. Maybe they’re thinking it over. I hope so!

HELLO AGAIN ALL MY BIG SEA FRIENDS….AGAIN, WE FACE OUR GAMES BEING SHUT DOWN. I WAS VERY SAD BIG SEA SHUT DOWN, BECAUSE OF THE FRIENDSHIPS FORMED THERE. I’M NOT ANYWHERE NEAR AS EMOTIONAL REGARDING TREASURE QUEST CLOSING DOWN. IT WAS NEVER THE SAME AS BIGSEA……NOT EVEN CLOSE…. IT IS WHAT IT IS AND I’M NOT MAD AT BIGFISHGAMES NOR AM I DISAPPOINTED ANYMORE. I STILL LOVE BIGFISHGAMES, HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR YEARS AND CONTINUTE TO ENJOY THE GAMES AND SERVICE THEY PROVIDE. I’LL ALWAYS MISS BIGFISHSLOTS AND RIDDLE. forever……………………………….. takecare all and thx lure for being there all these yrs for us……Linda

39 Lai-Lai April 11, 2011 at 8:01 pm

I’m gonna miss Lobe, Riddle, Mush, & Plunder. Hopefully since they cost money to make, they will pop up again somewhere. I already own Unwel Mel & Fairway Solitaire, which were actually created by Grey Alien Games.

For those of you wishing ill will on Bigfish for their rince-&-repeat screw-you business practice; not gonna happen. Video game sales are actually at their highest when the economy is bad. They make most of their money publishing other people’s games & they buy out the best HOG makers that aren’t developed by themselves. They also own several buildings in Seattle.
