Four new “no answer” game rooms were added to Riddle O’Day today. These rooms were added in response to some complaints on the forums that people were giving out the answers in general chat (and that this was “cheating” according to some of the posters). The new rooms are called:
* Independent Thinkers
* Lone Wolves
* Solitary Solvers
* Solo Seekers
These rooms are clearly marked (No Help) after their name in the game room list but as we stated earlier you can still be put into either type of room using the Play Now button.
What do you think of these new rooms and the room names in particular? Also, please let us know how these new, no help rooms are working out in the comments below.

Well, it’s nice they paid attention to the discussion. But I think it was excessive whining and unnecessary.
Maybe some will think its rude but at the place of loosing there time putting new rooms in the riddle o`day why they not put more games!!! we are there waiting for the new games to come up like the slots and everything else.But they just prefer to do stuff that half of the people will not care about it at all !!!
We wait 8 months i think for the new site? to get just a couple of games??? the truth it was not really hot pfff i will think they will put on the same games as the old site maybe not all but at least more then we just get right now.And they tell in the next few months they will add more games how long this will be again????
I think they have to hurry more to put on some new stuff because if people looks good the person on the site sometimes the # of players its not really hot
So hurry and put more games!!!
Sorry but sometimes i think they really mess up with the new site :o(
The new rooms are fine. I just think those players that always are complaining need to grow up. This is a “GAME” site. Games are supposed to be fun. Jeez louise.
You are not going to be able to please everyone here….I hate it that I can’t find the queen for months on end….and guess what?! I’m still here as a PAYING player and my life is not going to end if I don’t find her.
Good luck with all that you are doing with the site and thanks.
I think that what makes the game rooms so nice is that people help each other. It’s a sense of community. Never could figure out why some people were whining. You won’t fine me in a “no help” room .. I really enjoy helping others.
I agree with Lavona. It’s nice helping others out, makes ya feel good :)
I still think these rooms are uncalled for i swear some people are so stingy and rude what is wrong with asking for help?
i can’t believe bigsea would even put rooms like this in. i also notice that each of those rooms only have 1 or 2 players in them. that should tell bigsea something don’t you think?
Louky- my opinion is that the few that are in these no answer rooms like to solve their riddle and leave without staying to hunt creatures. That’s what I do anyway as I like the riddle part and that’s about it. Have a good day!
I think it was a nice effort of BSG to offer the rooms for the people who are not willing to help others, to keep them happy, but honestly I do not understand their problem with it. There is always chat going by that you skip or ignore if it doesn’t have anything to do with you. So why don’t they just ignore that too? Or turn off their chat? The whole point of the “community” is to BE a community. What’s more of a community behavior than reaching out to a neighbor for a chat or a question. No dramas. Will these people start trying to police the topics in chat in other games as well? Imagine them putting up these limited topic rooms in all the games. What’s next? ‘No Congratulations or Thanks Allowed’ rooms?? Might as well get rid of chat altogether. Geez!
These no help rooms are just so unnecessary. These crazy non community people should turn off their chat if they don’t want to help or see others helping others. How petty!
Well they got the rooms they wanted…Why ain’t they going to them??I know why…lol…not enough people there to do any sharing of tokens huh…The most that i have seen in all 4 rooms at onetime is “4″…Come on be for real was it worth all the whining to get them and then not use them ..lol…Just my OPINION of the situation….Oh btw not only in GAMES but we ALL need or ask for help in some aspect of life..huh…Im here to have fun..not complain…
I to have wondered why after all the complaining those idiots did why they arent using those rooms? There’s seldom more than one or two in all 4 rooms,they arent using them because they are nosy ,and must see whats going on in other rooms, then complain if someone ask’s for help.I’m sure Big Sea has the names of the people who asked for these rooms dont they,so in the future,request for crapola can be sorted out? Some people just cant stand to be happy without complaining I guess,or maybe the one’s who were complaining saw how assinine they sounded,who knows?
Just my opinion of course,thanks for listening.
Spitfire5349: I don’t know if it’s really necessary to call them “idiots” or refer to them as “assinine” (actually spelled asinine, it doesn’t need the “ass” part to make it sound crude), but it’s certainly clear the “No Help” people aren’t using their rooms. The most people I’ve ever seen in one was 2. It’s a shame, if all of the “no asking for help” and “answers are cheating” folks would just pick one of the rooms and frequent it, they might actually get some nice token bonuses off of each other. :)
Lure,
I can assure you I was not trying to be “crude”. I was voicing my opinion,as so many others do on here. I do know how to spell it,I guess I was going for the dramatic,sorry about that.
Spitfire5349: thanks for clarifying. :) We’re all entitled to our own opinions here, and I encourage everyone to comment to their heart’s content… but I find it always facilitates communication if others don’t have to be subjected to being called names or being put down for having one specific opinion or another.
Actually, the rooms ARE being used. The challenge is the people that like to solve the riddles often don’t spend hours in the rooms chasing critters (or dare I bring it up?…park in the rooms for points). They come in, solve their riddles and leave many times. I agree that 4 rooms was a bit of overkill when one or two rooms were originally requested (and probably only one was needed). I think you’ll see them being used more as people realize they are there. There was one player in there today that just noticed them (and they’ve been on the site for about a a week now). I’ve now seen up to 6 people in the room that I play in, and while that’s not maxing it out, it is showing there is some interest in the rooms. I’d like to see at least one of the rooms eventually get up to double digits, but I’ll be the first to admit that I doubt they will ever get maxed out. But I think over time, you’ll see them becoming used more, as people realize they are there, and also understand why they are there.
Quite a few have come into the rooms asking what ‘no help’ meant, and once explained they usually express that they like the idea of not getting spoiled by the answers that others don’t even want to spend a minimum amount of time trying to solve. And most reference that you can get the answers here at this site and they don’t understand why people have to ask for help in chat anyway.
The people that originally requested these rooms were turning off their chats to not have to see the answers, but they also liked to chat with their friends. I dare say many that are just saying ‘turn off chat’ wouldn’t like to be inconvenience to continually have to turn chat off and on and off and on throughout the course of their playing this game.
There are plenty of other Riddle rooms that often have only a couple people in them and in many of the other games there are plenty of rooms that never have anyone in them. So it seems that it’s not a big server space issue for the site to have the rooms available for those that want to use them.
I think kudos go to BSG for being willing to listen to a problem – wanting to have fun to solve the riddle and not be spoiled by seeing the answers in chat – and helping with a simple solution of adding some rooms. So, maybe 4 was too many…but who cares, if they are ok with it?
Also, the game site is still beta. The point of beta is to work through the kinks and provide recommendations to improve either the games or the environment for the other players. Some of these recommendation will work, some wont. This was a valid request not the typical ‘complaining’ that so many talk about. I’d lump complaining as comments like “this site stinks”, or “I hate this site and I’m going elsewhere”, or “bring back Big Fish” rather than presenting an issue and offering a solution or offering improvements to the games.
I for one use the ‘no help’ rooms, and I’m quite happy they are there. I’ll be happier when it’s Oct and there are ‘new’ riddles (yea, I know they’ll be the same as last year’s), so I won’t already have all the answers memorized from seeing them in the chat. And then again, I can enjoy the game that is named RIDDLE o’ the Day, not Catch Critters o’ the Day. For me solving the Riddle is the best part…although the new northern lights are cool too… :)
Reading over the now-infamous (and horribly long) thread, I still believe that the majority of folks felt that asking for help and offering answers was no big deal.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but one of the main arguments for these rooms being added was that just turning off chat would deny them from chatting with their friends. If these “no answer” people are so quick to do their riddle and leave, then what was the point again?
I agree with b3achy though, there probably hasn’t been enough TIME passed for people to hear about and settle into these rooms. However, I’m still skeptical whether or not there was really enough reason to create the rooms in the first place or if it was just a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. After all, Riddle O’Day helpers and non-helpers co-existed just fine for a solid fourteen months before these rooms were added.
I see what you mean about my comment about people not staying long, mf…but sometimes you can spend quite a while trying to solve a riddle. I dare say in 20 minutes of solving a tougher riddle in some of the rooms, you’d have 3-4 new people asking for help with their really simple riddles (you know the ones, where if you just read the whole riddle there is likely one or two answers that come to mind). So those I think are the spoilers for everyone. Of course, there are a few that will spend an hour or two chasing critters after solving their riddle, and these rooms are especially helpful to them.
Most of the folks that have been in the no help rooms really didn’t have issue with people asking for help on the really hard riddles which it seemed like was the primary requests before the transition…but honestly when people come into a room and immediately ask for help (and it’s a really simple riddle), and people are nice and help them…but then spoil it for those of us that haven’t had that riddle yet. It’s a shame they still don’t have the PSST function so that people could use that to pass the answers, but we don’t have that anymore. Maybe it’s because there are new people playing riddle and instead of doing it themselves they’d rather ask for help…but it really does seem like since the transition it’s gotten much worse than I’d seen on the old site.
I know what you mean about no one having issues before/everyone co-existing, and I think if they didn’t add the rooms the few of us that like to solve the riddle would keep doing what we’d been doing, but that’s the fun of the beta. Someone gets an idea to ask for something and the BSG folks are willing to try it. (I go back to my pause button for riddle example…thought it was the silliest request since you could either just miss a few critters or leave the room and come back later…but I bit my tongue on saying that I thought it was a bit extreme to ask for and really no reason for it…I’m glad I held back…I use that silly pause button all the time now.) I know this is a bit different than the pause button, but if making 20-50 more people happy to have a few rooms, then why not?
I really don’t see these rooms as much different than the strong language rooms or the CAPS LOCKER rooms. Not everyone uses those rooms either, and many times there are only handful in those rooms, but no one seems to have issue with these rooms being around (probably since they aren’t new). I also have no beef with them creating ‘no chat’ rooms either, which some have been asking for since those that don’t like to chat are getting accused of being parkers (and frankly, they could take a couple of the ‘no help’ rooms (I vote for Lone Wolves and Solo Seekers) and transition them to ‘no chat’ rooms, if that makes people happy).
Using the logic that because only a few people would use these rooms so they shouldn’t be there…well, then, why do we have games like Shape Shifter and Mush! and Freecell…these are consistently the lowest played games right now…so then maybe they need to be removed from the site. I hope you’d agree that this is somewhat silly logic to use because people like these games…so be glad that BSG is listening to even a few people and coming up with solutions. One day, those that are dogging this idea, might just be in a minority for something else, and it’ll be nice if the developers listen to you to, don’t you think?!
Just my thoughts…and can’t we just agree to disagree? ;)
Hmmm, so much to think about! I think you’ve swayed me a little b3achy, if for nothing else than this:
:)
Totally unnecessary! The people that complain are the whiners and complain about everything. So petty not to want to help someone. If you can’t get the puzzle you could spend a great deal of time trying to figure it out. Why all the fuss, Whiners?????????????????
I see nothing wrong with making more rooms for those that do not want to see the answers to riddles, as some do chat and it would be hard to not read what people type in for the hints. Are you not then whining about so called “whiners”? Just as most do not believe that those that ask for help are doing anything wrong, those that choose to be in the no help rooms are not bothering anyone or doing anything wrong. It’s a choice if you don’t like the no help rooms then do not go into one, pretty easy as I see it.
What a bruhahaha over nothing can’t understand the ones wanting new rooms. Personally I love the riddles have gotten them all and NEVER asked for help, also have all my awards. I keep coming back for the comraderie and the friends I meet, in a nut shell that is what makes it fun for me. Yeah would be nice to see more forest critters and more awards but I asumme one day I will try other games when this one has become too stale. I would NEVER go to a no Help rooms though (sounds like selfish people to me) That is my 2 cents or these days I think it should at least be worth a quarter LOL.
