One Week Left to Big Sea Games!

by Lure on August 11, 2009

Big Sea GamesIt’s finally ALMOST here — we’ve got just a week left until Big Sea Games is launched and all of the redesigns, awards, and new community features are going to be available to us. Recently, Big Fish Games posted a guide on how to prepare your account (scroll down to the heading “Get your Big Fish Games account ready to access Big Sea Games!”) when Big Sea Games goes live on August 18th.

Besides that, what are you doing to prepare?

For most of the awards, we’ll need to play the game after the awards have been implemented to earn them, but there are a few things I realized I could be doing in preparation before Big Sea Games is launched.

I decided to work on unlocking some courses in Fairway Solitaire. The “Beat the Baron” award requires you to “Finish The Baron with a score of par or better”. Since unlocking The Baron course requires you to unlock a few others (it’s the last course of the second installment of Fairway Solitaire), I made sure I had it unlocked so I’d be able to play for the award on launch day.

Big Fish Games also posted a list of awards that can be earned automatically on launch day if you’ve completed them prior to launch. They’re in Plunder, Unwell Mel, and Farm 52. They also detail a L.O.B.E. award you can prepare for by unlocking Mouse Untrap’s Hard Mode.

Check out the full list of Game Awards for reference and let us know what you’re doing to get yourself ready for the launch!

All day I have been thinking that it will be a week from today that is the big day! I have scheduled the whole day to be on Big Sea Games and I am really looking forward to it!

Hey, cool thing happened…when I went to the Download tab on Big Fish Games and then tried to click on the Games Community tab to go back to play my games some more, it instead tried to go to Big Sea Games. That’s what was listed un the address bar!! Of course it’s not ready yet and so it just said ‘Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage’, blah blah blah…but I was still able to bookmark the site for when it is there. My user name was even still logged in within the url. I tried this several times and it did it every time. To actually get back to game community I had to click on the bookmark saved in my Favorites folder. It’s funnny how my heart was racing when it saw that ‘Big Sea Games’ in the address bar. For a moment I was sure thinking it might actually be there early! :)

Debi: yeah, I’m having the same issue. I’ve also had a couple inquiries about this already today, people are wondering if the site’s down. (As a former corporate web developer, I totally get how this kind of thing happens… releases get mixed up and sent out to production before they’re fully cooked. Ah well.) Hopefully they’ll get it fixed soon.

If you’re having a problem accessing the game community, you can get there by directly visiting http://atlantis.bigfishgames.com/.

On Tues do we go into bigfishgames.com to get to the new site or do we go to bigseagames.com I know it sounds stupid but I am not computer literate.

5 Lure August 12, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Turks: either will work on August 18. There will be a link from bigfishgames.com to bigseagames.com, which will be a “live” web site then.

Hey, Lure, I was wondering….will you be changing the name of your website?

11 Lure August 13, 2009 at 9:43 am

Debi: no, I don’t think I will, at least anytime soon. A lot of people know this site by name and I am pretty fond of it just the way it is. :) I might change it down the road, but I don’t have plans to do so at the time.

12 jakepeavy444 August 13, 2009 at 7:44 pm

hey lure. A quick question. What time will the website be released. Also, will your new site be bigseagamer.com if you get one?

13 Lure August 13, 2009 at 9:09 pm

jake: I don’t know what time they’re planning on releasing it. And no, my site won’t be bigseagamer.com. :) If I change names/addresses, it’ll be something that doesn’t necessarily have “Big Sea” in it — too many people already think this site is owned by Big Fish, so if I decide to relocate I’ll probably come up with something that makes it pretty clear it’s a fan site run by FANS. :)

I’m new to Big Fish Gamer. So i was wondering do I need to pay for a subscription in order to play for the game awards and to get avatars? And if not what is the advantages of paying the $6.99 a month?

15 LindyLou88 August 14, 2009 at 4:19 am

With all the anticipation of the new site, there will be so many people logging in to try everything. Is BF prepared for this? Will there be more rooms created to accommodate everyone, and we all get a fair chance to log in and play? Thanks. :)

lure under news it says they will be on facebook on the 18 and they will keep people posted about how they are doing with the site that day and how long it will take

17 dee August 14, 2009 at 9:07 am

char the awards are free the site is free to play on you dont need to pay for anything to play the games on big sea site when it launches on the 18

18 Lure August 14, 2009 at 9:12 am

Thanks dee! I am not really seeing on Facebook any news yet. I’ll monitor it on the 18th and re-post in a big thread here at the top of my home page for people who don’t want to mess with Facebook that day.

Char: in addition to what dee said, I answered a similar question here:

I’m not sure the actual price right now — I know the game club is $6.99 a month, but that’s a whole different site and service now.

Oh no, I knew this day was coming. Just thinking of all the badges I can earn. I have no place to put them all. Have to go buy a picture frame. Then find a place to put it. I wonder if the wife would get upset if I took the family portrait down……ROFL.

20 Char August 14, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Thanks Dee and Lure for the info…very much appreciated!

I am looking forward to the new sight.

21 Robin Lafferty August 14, 2009 at 10:36 pm

Still quite don’t understand will the games that have not been upgraded be on Big Sea. I play big fish slots and afaird it wont be there Thank you for all the info you put out there Robin Lafferty

22 Lure August 15, 2009 at 9:19 am

Robin: Big Fish Slots won’t be part of the initial release at Big Sea Games. It will, however, be part of the next batch of games that are released after the Big Sea Games site has been up a while. You may have to wait a few weeks before you can play it again.

23 verna elliott August 18, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Just this month I joined big fish games for 6.99 a month. Will there be a fee to join this site?

24 Lure August 18, 2009 at 12:18 pm

verna: no, you will not have to pay. This new online game site is entirely separate from Big Fish Games and their Game Club.
