I woke up this morning to a few emails and a lot of comments strewn across several different old posts on varying subjects and it became clear that Big Fish’s site was having an outage of some sort. It looks like it went down around 1am PST and has been down ever since.
This outage covers both the Games Community Beta and all of BigFishGames.com, including the downloads, online games, and game community.
I don’t have an official word on the outage, all of my contacts with Big Fish are (naturally) on the west coast and probably still asleep. I’m sure, however, that other Big Fish employees are frantically working to get the site back up and online. I’ll update this post if I find any more information.
In the meantime, feel free to post in this thread with anything you’d like to chat about. It’ll give us something to do while we wait.
Update 12:08pm EST: This is a MAJOR outage — several television stations, radio stations, many web sites, and even a few credit card processors are offline due to a fire at Fisher Plaza in Seattle. For the most current information, searching #fisherfire on twitter is so far one of the best resources for breaking news. (Thanks Picman!)
Update 2:32pm EST: There is also a little more information at Gamezebo. Reports from Picman across other forums and web sites state that they have engineers setting up their disaster recovery data center in New Jersey and at another location in Seattle. He writes, at about 2pm EST, “If all the stars align this will be within 4-6 hours, but most likely 12 to 24 as we have to migrate huge database servers that will take some time.”
Update 7/4 10am EST: BigFishGames.com is intermittently back online, however the Game Community section (atlantis.bigfishgames.com) and the beta site are not back online yet. We do not have an ETA for those two sites.
Update 7/4 11pm EST: It looks like the game community web site (atlantis) is back, but not without a few glitches in some of the games. Have patience while Big Fish’s engineers work to remedy problems that arise. I know I speak for all of us when I give our heartfelt thanks for their hard work over this U.S. holiday weekend.
Update 7/5 10pm EST: All sites appear to be back up and working, though there may be minor glitches for the engineers to work out over the course of the next few hours. Again, have patience while they work towards remedies for any problems that may arise. Once again, thank you BF employees who all worked so hard to get us back online at our favorite web site!

On the beta site, I have been playing a lot of Farm 52 and I can tell you it’s going to be a total blast for those of you who get to see it for the first time when the new community site launches (in July or August — soon)!
However, I got distracted from Farm 52 by the newly-released Boggle Bash on Pogo and haven’t tended to my farm for a few days. For those of you who don’t know, I also run a much more active Pogo.com fan site called BadgeHungry.
I hope everyone in the US has a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

dee, Spitfire5349: it’s a possibility and I’ve got my fingers crossed right there along with you all! However… I doubt they’d take down their entire site (including the downloadable games section, which is undoubtedly their primary money-maker) just to update the Game Community.

My first morning stop everyday is Big Fish Games Community to play my favorites so it really throws me off when I can’t play my games to start my day. But I admit that when I discovered them offline my first hope was what has already been stated…that this was the big exciting moment. I have my fingers crossed! And Lure, I am extreeeemely eager to play Farm 52. I am a regular Farm 51 player and the updated version is something I am really looking forward to. I think I will try out Boggle Blast, though, because I am an enormous Boggle fan and have been since I was a little kid. It is one game I am really honestly good at. Thanks for the forum for times when Big Fish is down. It is much appreciated Lure!!

teddybear17, Pacific Standard time is 8 hours behind Greenwich Mean time, but due to Daylight Savings, right now you would subtract 7 hours from your time in the UK to get the current Pacific Daylight time.

GO to twitter and search #fisherfire. Someone is “tweeting” every 10 to 20 seconds. Very severe internet outage. estimates are at 12 or more hours of downtime.

It looks like this is going to be a pretty lengthy outage. Does anyone have any topics they’d like to discuss while we’re waiting it out? Are any of you doing anything fun with your new-found spare time?
I plan to get away for the day (it is, after all, a Federal holiday) and spend the evening with some friends. If I didn’t have plans, I’d definitely be playing Boggle Bash on Pogo, or playing World of Warcraft (my time-consuming hobby for the past four+ years). You?
Well I’ve done laundry, baked cookies, hemmed some coveralls, started packing the hubbys luggage…vacuumed, and now I want to play in Big Fish…but alas I can’t so I’ll go find something else to fill my spare time…(would prefer to be in Big Fish though)…please, please please get it fixed soon! Hate to burst bubbles but as a beta tester i can tell you that the new site is not ready for release yet and this fire may cause more delays….but it will be worth the wait i promise!

Seems there was a fire at Fisher Plaza where the HUB is housed for Big Fish Games, the sprinkler system shorted this generator out, knocking out Big Fish, TV stations, Radio Stations, Credit Card companies etc.
They are saying it could take hours OR DAYS to fix this problem :o( I’m hoping for hour’s myself LOL, withdrawal is setting in…

I miss Big Fish. Thanks for the info – and am glad to know the real cause (a fire causing an outage) ‘cuz otherwise, I would have been horribly disappointed when the ‘new’ site didn’t come up. I along with so many people going through withdrawal of not being able to play. I am a member on Facebook and their Bejeweled Blitz is involved in the same disaster. BigFish has helped me tremendously to give up smoking, I play instead of smoking when possible. Thank you BigFish and let’s get you fixed up good as new!!!

Hey Lure, where is the update to Unwell Mel? I saw it was on the beta site Thursday with awards and was hoping you would have the list of awards so I knew how I got some of them.

I thought as well that something was wrong with my computer cause game – Bigfishslots game was playing up most of the time a few days before site has crashed, I am from Israel, friday is my day off, I was playing slots waiting to get to rank champ 9 and suddenly the game crashed, I have started to check puter connection settings, now I know the reason and I really hope we could be back again very very soon, bigfish is a part of my soul lol……..Happy 4th of July to all Americans players, people, children. Here it is the 4th of July… 9:30 am and still no BF… crying in my empty webpages. I had to do something yesterday so gathered family from across the state and took the day to go to my parents to have a cookout. Today I don’t know what to do. Maybe actually clean my house? NAAAA go to P. and play Boggle Bash. Learn a bunch of new words to bring back to BF. Maybe I will have a memorial service for the few that were lost in the fire. Especially will miss the boggies that very rarely get seen and the elusive Uni… toss some dandelions to the wind and hope to see the spirits bring us some comfort. Who knows?
Can’t wait for BF to get back online soon.

IBmewhoU: I didn’t exactly have time to put together a post about Unwell Mel before the outage. Oops. :( Rest assured, as soon as I can get to the information, I’ll have a post put up here.
dee: Mine wasn’t the only site he visited, but it was nice having him come here to update us all on the situation.
With that said, it was a smart move on his part to visit fan forums and this site, their official Twitterer didn’t even post an update until just 10 hours ago and without them, BFG didn’t have any quick means of spreading the word about the outage and ETAs otherwise. I was able to take his info and tweet it to my followers and update my original post. Voila, instant information dissemination.
Also, when my site has problems (I think I’ve outgrown shared hosting) I have used Twitter to update my visitors on its status. Hopefully when I move servers later this month, I’ll be able to keep people informed via twitter on the status of the move.
Executive summary: yay fan sites, yay twitter!
Man am I up there with you guys. This is two mornings in a row without my BFG fix. Get up, get coffee, turn on bfg and play my favs. I’m going a little stir crazy here. I read alot of your posts and see some games elsewhere that could be promising. Thanks for the info.

When I stumbled onto BFG I was so excited. I found a game site that was so much like what Pogo was before EA games. I have to say I wasn’t aware how addicted I had become tho till now. Pogo will just not cut it anymore. I love how BFG creates ways to make us all feel like we are playing games in a room with other people instead of a list of names. And the customer service can’t be beat. The fact they hit fan sites to let us know whats going on says a lot about them.
Poor bfg, they must be working so hard. Tahnk you to those who are working on this and have probably had to sacrifice their holiday to bring us back our addiction! Patiently awaiting your return, and hoping you have a lot of coffee to keep you going!
Wild neither the beta site or the atlantis game community are up….they are still down due to the fire at the server farm.
It is almost 8 p. m. EST & BIGFISH is still off-line. This is the second time that they have had fires causing them to shut down. I wonder if they will take this opportunity to make the changes in Riddle & LOBE?

The Big Fish Games team continues to work at restoring the Game Community (Atlantis) and Game Community Beta websites. Both are a bit complicated due to all the special services that handle chat, tokens, etc. I do not know when we will be back up – hopefully soon. I know it’s the top priority at this point. If I know more, I’ll post here and other places. Also, if you are on Facebook, join the BigFishGames group or follow bigfishgames on Twitter for more updates.

I am happy to read that all in BigFish are safe and well from the fires :)
I spend a good 18 hours a day in BigFish (insomnia sufferer) and I thought BF closed us down for a bit to say ‘crikey ladies, bout time you did some housework now’ lmso.
I have bruises on my forehead and holes in my walls eekkkkk.
I cannot express enough how much I miss my friends in Oz and I can’t wait to chat to you all again soon and greet you all with ((((hugz)))).

In 11 minutes, it’s gone from zero players (suspect it just wasn’t logging correctly yet), to 3,000 players to almost 6,000 players…here’s hoping we don’t crash the server just from shear volume!!! addict, I was at a loss for the past 30 hrs.! I did go to Shockwave and Pogo but didn’t enjoy myself very mich. I guess it’s NOT just the games that I missed but the people I usually chat with too. BF has the greatest fans going. I want you to know that I’ll never taake BF employees for granted again(if I ever dod that is).

Sunday morning in New York and I am logged on to BF community and all, just still can’t log on to beta site. Please let me know if this is true for all or just me. I have a strange old computer with a ghost and sometimes I’m the only one who can access certain sites.

Some observations – looks like they are still working to get some of the servers back online for the BF Community and there are still a few minor glitches with some of the games. While most all of the games are working (at least for a majority of the rooms), there are some that might still be having some challenges (I’m having some weird challenges in LOBE – doesn’t always load, and then blanked out on me as I was going into a new round). For example, this morning in BF Slots, only about half the area rooms are working (haven’t seen that many people in the Persian area ever!). Looks like the BF Slots server issue has been resolved as I’m typing this.
And with over 25,000 people online (all getting their fix from the DTs), I suspect there may be come challenges where lots of fav rooms are full, etc.
So, I say that to say…be patient everyone. They are back, but still there are some minor glitches as they are bringing things back online. I’m sure it will soon be back to normal, as those guys at BF are definitely putting in some overtime to get the site back to full speed.
I suspect once the Community is back, that’s when they get to next turn to the Beta site. For those Beta folks, I sometimes get a login page, but when I try to login, it then gives me the server error page still. I’m guessing maybe by later tonight or early tomorrow for that? Hard to say since I suspect there are a lot of behind the scenes bells and whistles they need to deal with, that we don’t necessarily realize. At least for now, we can get our fix in the regular community and spend hours building up our token count from the hours we often miss while being at the beta site. And hey…since there are probably some recovery glitches to be reported, we can do like we do on Beta and get into the forums and let them know what needs to be fixed ;) Just like being in Beta without being there, eh?!

Thanks for your observations b3achy! I too think that the beta site will come up after the live site(s) have all of their problems sorted out. After all, current money-making ventures will always take precedence over test projects!
A few minutes ago, @bigfishgames tweeted: “A few Game Community games still having some issues. We’re working on getting those games restored. Will post update ASAP.” Not anything new since last night, but still important to reiterate.

this might be it guys! beta is down and the old site is up. But for how long???

I can’t say enough how much work this must have entailed for BF…while on the Community site, I started looking at the server numbers when games were loading, and this was a herculean effort…absolutely amazing they did this as quickly as they did. Even I take for granted how awesome this site is. And the number of games they have for playing in the online site and for downloading. It’s incredible! Thanks again BF!
Although the site is back up, I still can’t get into Mahjong Towers. Having serious withdrawals here. At least I can play some of the other games. lol
