Two New Redesign Screenshots

by Lure on April 10, 2009

Here are two new screenshots from the Game Community portal redesign. Here’s a newer screenshot of the homepage portal, which now has more vibrant colors and a little bit different navigation:

April 10, 2009: Beta Screenshot: Game Community Portal Redesign

What you see above is the redesigned homepage. The tab says Games, but it’s the same if you click on it or on the logo in the upper left hand corner. Shop is where you customize your avatar’s appearance (it’s really slow and pretty empty on items to shop for right now).

Under the Awards tab, there’s a placeholder, but it does state “Awards are fun graphics that help you celebrate great game play accomplishments” and:

How can you earn awards?

Play the games you love! As you complete game play challenges, you’ll earn an award that you can display in your album.

* Mark your progress as you play
* Show your awards to friends
* Earn them all for a special award!

My Profile is where you can edit your interests and whatnot. This hasn’t changed much (except now it has more vibrant colors) since I last posted a screenshot. And last, but not least, Community is the forums section.

Also, here’s what each game window will look like.

April 2009: Game Community Portal Redesign: Game Room window

This particular shot is from Riddle O’Day — I’ve blurred out everyone’s names and chat on the left-hand side. When these changes are live, you’ll be able to click on Game Info, Awards, and Room Score to get detailed information about tokens you and others have won as well as the awards you’ve received. (Unfortunately the Awards section isn’t near complete, so I can’t really tell you much about what is in store. However, if you’re familiar with Xbox achievements or Pogo badges, I suspect they’ll be something like that.)

It also looks like there will be game halls, similar to Big Fish Slots (or that could just be a placeholder).

As I’ve said before:

As with any information posted on this site that refers to any FUTURE happenings at Big Fish Games: this is correct at the time of posting, but subject to change in the future. We have been given no official timeline on when these changes will occur. We will, of course, keep you posted as we learn of new developments.

I can’t help you get into the beta program or give you access to the site. I won’t even give you the URL; it won’t do you any good. If you were lucky enough to be invited, great. If not, they may give out more beta invitations later; otherwise you’ll just have to be patient. I know this sounds rude, but it’s true and I just can’t answer all of these emails and comments individually anymore.

And this time, I’m not approving any comments with respect to when these changes will roll out. Nobody knows yet, not even Big Fish Games. As soon as I know anything concrete, I’ll let you know, loud and clear. I’ll even yell it from the rooftops.

Hi Lure
Just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait till it is finished.

This is something I would like to see on Bigfish or this site a forum where we can go if we have problems with a game like not fully understanding the how to play and ask a question and a fellow player might be able to help. This way we don’t have to ask bigfish support.

Michelle: this site has always functioned that way. Other Big Fish fans have emailed me to have me post a question for them, or they’ve looked up an existing post and commented on that with their question. I keep the 5 latest comments in the sidebar so everyone can see what/where discussions are taking place and there’s also a category dropdown that contains links to posts in different subjects (games, rumors, etc).

If anyone has anything they’d like a discussion started on, drop me an email: lure@bigfishgamer.com and I’ll start a post and hopefully a discussion will flourish.

With that said, Big Fish has a huge, extensive forum/community section on their site where a lot of people can go to get help (myself included)!

Hi Lure,
Just resently found out about this site. Have a lot of cathing up to do. Love the info about the game community. Looks great. Can only get better.
I think I will visit your site daily to keep up with eveything.
Great site

Hi Lure,
I personally am not big on the badges and awards, it is why I like Big Fish, the simplicity of the gaming — However, I cannot wait for you to be shouting from the rooftops!
Have a great one!

Hi Dini: Welcome! I’m flattered that you’d visit daily — but be warned, the only section that’s updated daily is the New Releases from Big Fish Games downloads (there’s a button at the top of the page). As far as the other categories, I just post when I can and when I have information.

I hope in the future that Big Fish becomes as big as Pogo, that there would be something to write/talk about every day. My Pogo fan site is a much, much more active community (there’s a link to BadgeHungry on the right sidebar).

listen guys: beta is nowhere near ready. I am a tester, and I can tell you, there are soooooooo many problems with it right now. It’s gonna be a while. Dont get your hopes up yet.

I too am a frequent visitor to this page,to check for news about updates.
I’d like to ask if it’ll be weeks or months til the new updates will be started. Sometimes it’s sounds really hopefull that it’ll be soon, then I read things like the comment above from a tester, and I am thinking it’s gonna be a long time. The pages for the new opening look neat, and the riddle pages are quite pretty, definately not the same drab forest.
Thanks for keeping us as updated as possible.

Spitfire5349: months. Did I ever give the impression it’d be weeks? I’m sorry if I did; I’ve always tried to maintain the tone in my posts that this is a huge work in progress for Big Fish — it’s going to be a long time before they’re done.

I too have seen the test site and I agree with peavyfan… no way are they going to be rolling this out to the masses anytime soon. Way too many problems, and when someone complains, they blame your system. Shockwave’s site is Flash and has been for like forever, and it runs MUCH better. Big Fish shoulda stayed with Java. They seem to not know how to handle Flash. Guess I will be playing elsewhere if they don’t get it right.

Thank you Lure for yet another great update, and letting us know in the original post that it will be a while. I think sometimes we all just get a little excited and don’t read the whole post carefully enough when you say it will be a long time before we see any changes. I’m so thrilled to be getting these sneak peaks! It all looks amazing.

Lure,
No, you never gave that impression, lol, perhaps it was just me hoping it could be sooner. I understand that it’s a huge undertaking, and Big Fish would want it to be working right before they released it. My thanks again for reading my post, and answering so quickly.

Hey Lure,

I don’t see reference to the day/night version of Riddle O’ Day…did the design change?

Thanks…can’t wait to see the new version!

Thanks everyone for understanding! It’s hard to be the bearer of really good news when that really good news is not coming right around the corner! :)

Debbie: voila!

In the comments section I posted a nighttime screenshot that showed how big the forest window would be.

Hi Lure,
Thank you for telling about pogo. Have been on the site already and will go back there. looks interesting.

Happy easter.

16 Sam April 12, 2009 at 11:27 am

So you are not affiliated with Big Fish Games but you use their trademarked name in your domain? Interesting

17 Lure April 13, 2009 at 11:41 am

Sam: Right — except “Big Fish Games” is their trademark. Technically I’m not using their trademark. I’m just a gamer and fan. :)
